Telefónica Tech, the digital business subsidiary of the Spanish telecommunications corporation Telefónica, and IBM have signed a collaboration agreement to develop security solutions that address risks posed by future quantum computers. While quantum computing offers advanced capabilities, it also creates challenges for data security, as traditional encryption methods may become vulnerable. IBM has developed enterprise software such as IBM Guardium
As part of this agreement, IBM’s infrastructure has been deployed at Telefónica’s headquarters in Madrid to support business development and enhance cybersecurity measures. The partnership also includes the creation of a joint use case office to focus on encryption, secure algorithm adoption, and the protection of critical systems. Telefónica Tech will assist organizations in transitioning to quantum-safe encryption technologies to strengthen resilience against future cybersecurity risks. IBM executives emphasized the importance of early cryptographic evaluations, while Telefónica Tech highlighted the need to secure critical data against potential threats from quantum computing advancements.
