The survey, titled “Is Your State Data Quality Ready for GenAI?”, involved CIOs and CDOs The report emphasizes the need for stronger data governance and leadership. Less than half (41%) of respondents have a dedicated data management officer, highlighting a talent gap. Experts, including NASCIO Executive Director Doug Robinson, stress the importance of fostering a data-centric culture to leverage AI's potential. Chris Estes of EY US notes that high-quality data is essential for AI to transform state operations effectively. The report recommends implementing formal data governance policies and data literacy training to enhance state government AI efforts and ensure successful technology modernization.
State CIOs Face Data Quality Challenges Amid Growing AI Adoption, Survey Finds
from 46 states, with 95% of respondents noting that increased AI adoption is impacting data management. Despite this, only 22% have established a dedicated data quality program, and nearly three-quarters (72%) admitted to reactive data quality management. Budgetary alignment remains a key concern, with 83% reporting minimal or no funding for data quality initiatives.
